QUOTE(syeager @ Feb 20 2005, 05:54 PM) UnDutchables download was moved to File Archive section. Please REGISTER if you want to download it and follow this LINK. Hi my friend, I downloaded the fireware and updated my EOS 300D, but I found my camera would sometimes suddenly had no response and the LCD displayed nothing just like the power is off. I could not recover it by turning the power on-off. It would be ok if I taked out the battery and brought it back. Could you tell me what the problem may be? Thank you. Sam. |

I tried to download the 300D firmware update from this URL: http://www.syeager.org/300d/forum/index.php?showtopic=145.
With tries on two browsers, all I got was a lot of garbage on a new browser window, not a download of anything to my desktop. What am I doing wrong? I use a MAC on 10.4.8 OS X, and tried Safari and Omniweb as browsers. |

Sorry, I know nothing about MACs. But it appears that your browsers don't recognize ZIP files and instead of downloading they are trying to display the contents on your screen.

I dont think it's a MAC problem, since I have exactly the same problem, running winxp, both in firefox and in IE7. It seems to be a problem on the server, not outputting the file as a zip-file... a header problem or something. My solution: Right click the download link, "save target as" and name it as E3kr111.zip (the zip-part is the important thing).. when finished downloading u'r computer should be able to handle the file as any old zip-file.. cheers |

Over 11,000 downloads and only couple of complains
In Windows, settings that tell IE what to do with the file are located in Folder Options in Windows Explorer (not IE itself). One possibility is that sometimes, when you install and remove third party utilities, they modify the settings for zip files incorrectly and IE starts acting funny. This often happes with other file typles too, mainly multimedia. As every application wants to take contol over the files it can support. About Firefox. When this thread just started, I googled for this problem and found that this was a known issue. Perhaps depends on version or configuration. It's possible that Fierfox modifies zip file settings and it affects IE too. |

I had the same problem. Neither Firefox, nor IE7 work. I was able to download it only through IE6, and the file downloads as index.zip.

I think it's quite obvious that only people who have problems downloading zip files under Windows are those who have Firefox installed. Not only that it can't treat zip files properly, it also screws up settings that are used by IE. I hope this problem is fixed in the latest Firefox build.

Yes, you can flash back original firmware. But you will need to download it from Canon. Check this post for info:
http://www.syeager.org/300d/forum/index.ph...findpost&p=1042 Note that you will need is to restore Custom Functions to their original values. |

Sorry to re-hijack here, but I also had the same download problem as above, using Firefox and Opera on Windows. Had me pulling my hair out, I didn't think to use IE until I read this thread.
It worked with IE, but it still downloaded the file as "index.zip"... looks like a bug in IPB. It might be worth putting a disclaimer near the download link. Thanks again for the download! |

Good idea, I put a little note there.
But still there are only very few complains out of more then 11,000 downloads. So I doubt it's IPB's fault. I Goggled a bit on this subject, but didn't find much. There are some complains about ZIP files, but not related to what's going on here. Also note that people who have this problem with FF, have problem with IE too. I suspect FF. Perhaps some particular version of it. Obviously it changes something in the system that also affects handling of ZIP files by IE. Edit: My IE was working fine with this forum. So I decided to try Firefox. Sure enough, after I installed FF, it couldn't download the file. Instead it was displaying contents in the window as some garbled characters. And IE also stopped showing correct file name after that, displaying index.html instead. And even after I removed Firefox from my system, IE is still showing the wrong file name. And even more. I reinstalled IE and it didn't fix the problem. Then I did system restore to before Firefox, and it didn't help either. So this little bugger zapped something in my windows for good |

I have not been able to download UnDutchables 0.2.3 firmware from the link provided by Steve Yeager without buying the PhotoParade Album software. Does anyone have the UnDutchables 0.2.3 (E3kr111.zip) or the (E3kr111.fir) file known to work with IE 6 Sp1

Does anyone have the UnDutchables 0.2.3 (E3kr111.zip) or the (E3kr111.fir) file known to work with IE 6 Sp1 Can you tell more about this PhotoParade? I never heard about it. Definitely it's not coming from this site.I just checked download link and it works fine. However if you have Firefox or if you had Firefox on your system previously, it may not work right away because of the file redirection method used by this forum. It won't work even in IE if you installed and later removed Firefox. In this case you may want to try to right click on the link and choose "save as" and then type in the desired file name with extension ZIP. |

Hi Steve, Have a happy Thanksgiving.
When I follow this link provided in your original post: “V. 0.2.3 Firmware: E3kr111.zip ( 1.77mb ) Number of downloads: 12573” The “File Download” box pops up with this info. Notice that says file that can harm your computer---- File Name: index.php File Type: PhotoParade From: www.syeager.org I have no clue why the .zip file is not downloaded !!! When I click to open ( also if I save and open) I get this notice box titled “PhotoParade” Which says: “You need to obtain the latest version of the PhotoParade Player to view this PhotoParade. An update is available from www.photoparade.com I am running Win 2000 pro sp5 with IE 6 sp1 with all current critical updates. I did a search for Mozzilla and found several folders including one called foxfire which was not shown in the add/delete feature in the Windows control panel. I sent all of these folders to the Recycle Bin then did a reboot on the PC but it still goes To the PhotoParade site. Would appreciate any help to obtain UnDutchables 0.2.3 upgrade. I currently am using the Wasia firmware release two but really need flash compensation when using the 420EX speedlite on my DR 300D Kiss. Now for the good news: I took your advice and typed in E3kr111.zip as the file to save via download from your link and it worked fine. The .fir file was extracted and now I will update camera firmware. Any special cautions when doing this? Thanks for everything including the forum. |

I think I know what your problem might be. PHP is the language that this board is written with. So files here are called like "something.php". And when you click on download link, it tries to open some PHP file that is a part of this forum program to download the file.
However on your computer PHP files are associated with PhotoParade, so it opens your PhotoParade program instead, that is out of date and it is trying to get an update. 3 possible solutions: 1. Right click on the link and select "save as". Then choose the directory and replace "index.php" with something like "hack.zip" in the filename field. 2. If you are not using PhotoParade anymore, open any folder on your system, select Tools->Folder Options, and then open "File Types" tab. Find PHP and clear the assosiations. I don't remember how it's done on Win 2000 exactly, but you need to do something like uncheck "always open using this program" box and erase program name in advanced options. Actually you want to clear EVERYTHING that is related to PHP. 3. Upgrade to XP Hope it helps. P.S. Actually it's a problem with this board software. It is using fancy file redirect method that is not well supported, though it is standard. Files here are stored under different names to prevent direct linking to them. And when you click on the download link, it tells the real file name and the name that should be used to save it. Unfortunately not all browsers understand it correctly and it may not work at all if configuration was changed. |

Thanks for your valuable suggestions.
Just in case this would help someone else using Win 2000, here is how to clear out PHP file extension usage. Open Windows Explorer >> open tools >> open folder options >> open file types >> scroll down to PHP >> click delete Now the PHP extension and all of its associations are removed. If PHP files are needed for some other reason, the file extension can be entered as NEW. I would like to upgrade to XP but right now I several PC’s running 2000 pro installed from a single OS disk. I simply do not like what Microsoft has done with XP limiting its use to one PC and difficulties with activation. |

XP can be downloaded from many file sharing systems like eDonkey/eMule/BitTorrent. Also there are activation cracks and volume license key generators that don't require activation. And some OEM releases don't need any key at all. It's hard coded in the installation. It was cracked looooong time ago and MS can't do a thing about it.
And XP is better OS. Besides adding a bunch of useless gimmics like themes that people see first, they made a lot of improvements to kernel, so it's more efficient and more reliable then 2000. And gimmics can be disabled to save some RAM. That's what I do. |
