I have been struggling with 420 ex on 300D for long time. My DR has wasia firmware installed.
In M mode, no matter it's dark room (one light in evening time) or bright room (daytime with blinder), the flash fires sometimes but most likely it doesn't fire. I tried P and Auto mode, same result. Not a guru. I did a lot of search and even read some articles about how flash works. It doesn't help me out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Check contacts on the shoe. This is most likely problem. In any "non creative" modes like P, Tv, Av and M, flash should always fire if it switched on. You should see "flash ready" indicator in your viewfinder.
Bad contact is most likely the cause. Clean the contacts and try to wiggle a flash a little bit till you get this indicator on. I have the same problem. Looks like cheap design. They didn't bother to gold plate contacts on the camera body. And it definitely not related to firmware. |
