After 6 years and about 20000 shots I had my first problem with this camera. At the least appropriate moment auto focus failed and when trying to release the shutter, camera made a strange mechanical noise, displayed Busy in viewfinder and Err 93 on the little LCD display.
I took off the lens and found that the mirror somehow went a little bit down behind the stop and stuck there. I pushed it up. It didn't take a lot of force. It started working normally after this. I looked at the mirror assembly and couldn't see anything wrong. My guess is that something there got worn out. So I wander if anyone had the same problem and if so, how did you fix it? I did a quick search on Google, but didn't find anything related to Err 93. |

There is apparently a know weakness with the 300d regarding plastic mirror hinge pins. This sounds something like the failure mode. I found some information by Googling "canon rebel mirror pin repair". I can't put my finger on the details of this iss right now BUT here is a link of a self repair: http://users.abo.fi/jskata/300Drepair/ I hope this isn't it BUT it is a suggestion. Good luck! Thanks. But this is not the same. I saw a lot on Err 99 and the little mirror before, but I got Err 93 and the problem is different. It's the main mirror that for some reason fell through the stop on the port side and stuck there. Actually it didn't fell through the stop. It just got caught on it. After I lifted it up by hand, I couldn't figure out how it could move there in the first place. There are no signs of something being worn out and I couldn't force the mirror into this position. I took about 200 pictures after that to test, and this problem didn't reoccur.
